King Records Digital Experience (DX)

Ask:
To create a digital experience for the Cincinnati record label King Records (1943 - 1970).

Goals:
My goal was to bring together all the incredible stories and digital media under one URL: KingRecords.org. Let’s celebrate the hundreds of artists who helped create and shape the cultural and musical landscape in the post-World War era, not only in America but around the world.

Results:
After years of dedication and efforts, I am thrilled to announce the launch of KingRecords.org. This website, a true labor of love, showcases the rich history of King Records over three decades. It highlights the label's contributions to various music genres, including Blues Shouting, Rock 'n' Roll, and Funk, as well as the origins of DIY record labels. Discover the incredible stories of talents like Freddie King, Merle Travis, and James Brown.

Creative Brief & Project Results

The mission of King Records DX is educating and celebrating the inspiration that King Records created over 75 years ago in Cincinnati, Ohio.

The website of King Studios, a nonprofit organization founded in 2010 as a collaboration of Xavier University and the Evanston Community Council. It commemorates the unique cultural and social contributions made by historic King Records in the neighborhood of Evanston in Cincinnati.

King Studios aims to engage the Evanston community, especially young people, in educational programs that document Evanston’s history and the ways that King Records created a racially integrated workplace and a diverse set of musical traditions.

There are only three places in the world that can claim to be the birthplace of Rock & Roll: New Orleans, Memphis & Cincinnati.
